Reflections on Next Steps Discipleship Call

As the end of 2021 approached, I was looking forward to our year end Next Steps video call.  A special time of fellowship and discipleship was experienced during the last call of the year.

I was blessed by participating while the Cambodia students and the Guatemala students listened to Saving Susan Ministry Associate Board member Jeremiah Aiken give a devotion on the spiritual discipline of fasting.

He used lessons from Acts 13, Mathew 6, and Daniel 1:11-16 to encourage all of us to look at and consider the spiritual discipline of fasting. Today most of us think about praying, worshiping and giving rather than fasting.

The students shared their wide range of knowledge and experiences in a conversation about fasting.  An amazing time of sharing happened.  After the call most of the students messaged to express gratitude for Jeremiah’s teaching.

This is just one example of how God is at work in ways beyond what we planned when we began the Next Steps program. Five years ago we were inspired to start a scholarship fund, honoring Dr. Baskin and Pastor Craig Bowler. The Baskin Bowler Scholarship is an instrumental part of the life transformation of these young adults.  The mentoring and discipleship with these students is showing all of us how to be better followers of Jesus, for that I am grateful.
