Annual Mission Funding

As the Ministry Coordinator for Saving Susan Ministry I manage all the relationships between the ministry and our orphanages, Parent Partners, ministry partners, and community.  This is a unique and incredible position, but most of the people I work with and the kids I work on behalf of are in other countries.  To better serve them it is necessary for me to make regular trips to their orphanages.  As a new ministry we have goals and plans in place to expand our budget, but currently it can not sustain the budget needed for travel.

I am looking for partners to come alongside me today with support for the rest of 2016 and all of 2017.

I have plans/opportunities to go to

  • Guatemala
  • Cambodia (twice)
  • Haiti

Where I am going and why

Soon after joining the Saving Susan team I had the opportunity to go with a group to two cities in Cambdodia. We served two churches, an orphanage, a dump site ministry and widows island in Phnom Penh.  In Kampong Thom we went to Bileg Solid Rock which functions as a medical mission, school, orphanage, and feeding center. We also partnered with FCA to work on the baseball ministry that seeks to bring the gospel to Cambodian youth.

We accomplished a lot in ten days, but there is still so much more to do and the longer I am in this role I see more way to improve. I now have a few opportunities to go back and more evenly distribute my time to best serve all of these ministries we support.

The first trip I have ever taken out of the country was to Haiti.  We were at NorthStar Haiti Church and school in Croix des  Bouquet.  While there we ran sports clinics, English lessons, gave out new clothes, made sure the kids ate, and updated our records.  It was the experience that sparked my passion to get involved in God's plan for His children around the world. I hope to go back because they recently opened an orphanage and I would like to take what I learned in Cambodia with the established orpahanges to the children I love in Haiti.

House of Hope Zacapa in Guatemala. I don't have any pictures yet, because I haven't been.  I have heard incedible stories of the work being done there and I would like to better support them.  Part of my role with Saving Susan is the PR function as well as event planning. In everything we do we try to represent our children well and give a full picture of what is happening. I have consistently failed to bring that full picture or even keep up to date records because I have never been and don't know what all happens there.

I often have people ask me why I spend so much going to these places when I could do more for these people by sending the cash instead.  That question used to hurt my feelings and confuse me.  I knew I was supposed to go to these places. I knew I was helping to make positive change.  I just didn't know how to explain to someone without my calling or knowledge of the place why it was better to go.  and then I heard someone teach on the "ministry of presence".

Why do kids want their parents at their games? Why does having a friend in the dark feel better?  Why does a phone call feel better than nothing?  We all want to know someone cares.

These children are learning about Christ in predominantly Buddhist, Catholic, and Voodoo cultures. The missionaries are trying to raise children who won't rape their family members, perpetuate societal norms, and resign themselves to life they have seen every other adult live.

They need to know that they are not alone in this fight.  We spend our days recruiting Parent Partners, acquiring supplies, planning events for funding, and looking for more teachers and missionaries, but they don't see that. They don't know unless we go and show them we support them.

I know $10,000 is a big ask. But we have a big job to do and I am not afraid to ask big anymore.

Will you help get me there?
